Description
Dr. Enrique Diaz-Guzman Zavala ("Dr. Diaz") is the Medical Director of Lung Transplant Critical Care at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital. He earned his medical degree from the Ignacio A. Santos School of Medicine at ITESM in Monterrey, Mexico. He then completed his Internal Medicine residency, a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, and advanced Lung Transplantation training at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Diaz joined Piedmont Atlanta Hospital bringing over 20 years of clinical and academic experience. Before his arrival at Piedmont, Dr. Diaz served as the Medical Director of the Tulane Lung Center and Lung Transplantation, where he spearheaded the launch of Tulane University's inaugural lung transplant program. His extensive leadership background also includes serving as the Medical Director for the lung transplantation and adult ECMO programs at both the University of Kentucky and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Diaz is board certified in Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine. His clinical interests focus on advanced cardiopulmonary failure, lung transplantation, and artificial lung technologies. He is passionate about improving patient outcomes, advancing multidisciplinary care, and expanding access to specialized lung transplant and critical care services. Outside of work, Dr. Diaz is an avid reader who loves learning about history, different languages, and diverse cultures. He enjoys staying active through tennis and road cycling, playing the piano, and sharing outdoor adventures with his family and their four dogs. Dr. Diaz welcomes new patients and accepts most major insurance plans.
